Ladies & Literature is a Monte girls' book club, which meets every three weeks during term time to share their love of reading, organise some fun events and advise the library staff on great new reads and displays. The L&L club gives you the opportunity to connect with other girls who enjoy sharing what they have read, with guest speakers also joining us from time time.
Look forward to seeing you there!
June 14th Meeting
What a fantastic Ladies & Literature meeting! The girls enjoyed delicious pizza whilst listening to four girls compete in our first"bilbliobattle"! Olivia Brown, Cecilia Sullivan, Olivia Vercoe, Claire Le Blond and Clare Cameron 'pitched' their a book to the group, who then voted on the most persuasive pitch. All the girls did a wonderful job and the meeting was fun, entertaining and full of lively conversation!
And I Darken, written by Kiersten White, won the most votes, so well done Cecelia for your enthusiasm in telling us about this exciting, fantasy novel to the group. See you all at our next meeting in term 3!
Write a Book in a Day is being held in the Monte Library on Friday July 21. Ten teams of ten students, from Years 7 to 11, spend 12 hours in lock-down in the library (8am to 8pm) working together to write and illustrate a book of 4000 to 5000 words, for a national competition that raises funds for The Kids' Cancer Project. There are rules about the book that is written, which you can READ HERE. These rules outline the target audience (young people who are patients in hospitals), plus the fact that some randomly allocated words, characters etc must be included in each book. Register your team of 10 by June 14. Make sure everyone has no extra-curricula activities that day like debating, sport or music (this is an essential rule at Monte), and contact Mrs Brown if you have any questions.
The Principal's Reading Challenge is Monte's own version of the Premier's Reading Challenge. In order to complete the challenge, students must read a total of 15 books before week 3, Term 4, including one from every genre in the library. Write a 100 (approx) word review in the Destiny Library catalogue for the 15 books to complete the challenge. All students completing the challenge will be invited to a special cupcake morning tea in the Library.
